AOPA mag article today regarding a bill introduced in congress to allow a person to fly general aviation single or twin aircraft with a drivers license - no medical certificate - AND you meet the requirements of the appropriate pilot certificate!

Quote from this month's AOPA News:

>>Reps. Todd Rokita (R-Ind.), a member of the House General Aviation Caucus, and GA Caucus Co-Chair Sam Graves (R-Mo.) on Dec. 11 introduced the General Aviation Pilot Protection Act.

The General Aviation Pilot Protection Act would allow pilots to use the driver’s license medical standard for noncommercial VFR flights in aircraft weighing up to 6,000 pounds with no more than six seats. That includes virtually all single-engine airplanes with six or fewer seats, including Beech Bonanzas, as well as many light twins like the Piper Aztec, Beech Baron 55 and 58, and Cessna 310.

Pilots would be allowed to carry up to five passengers, fly at altitudes below 14,000 feet msl, and fly no faster than 250 knots. The act also would require the FAA to report on the safety consequences of the new rule after five years.<<

You still have to meet the FAA requirements, except the medical certificate, for a Private Pilot license and the currency requirements. $$$$ is up to you!

This does not surprise me. The only question left is how big is the donation from the "special interest group" he is now representing...........

in some ways, I guess its alright.

but,,,, in the case of say in particular Truck Drivers who are Required to hold a CDL and now, with all the law changes, have to now Jump thru all kinds of Hoops to be able to have & possess that CDL truck drivers license, which apparently from what I read, Pilots aren't going to have to Jump thru all kinds of those special hoops, which just gets me !!

So it appears, that'll now it'll be easier to maintain and keep a Pilots license, than it will be CDL License ! / ??? :?

Don't know where your at ???

but - here in the United States now (wasn't always this way), to be able to obtain a CDL / Commercial Drivers License / Truck Drivers License

you must take and be able to pass a pretty through Physical, and not be over weight and not have a "Neck Size" that's above the "BMI" - Body Mass Index" :? :shifty:

The new law also states, they just came out with this too, that All Truck Drivers must now carry with them on the physical persons - the Long Form physical for 2 years as well as your CDL.

CDL Drivers must take a New Physical every 2 years .

They have also lowered the blood pressure regs to make it even more difficult to pass, what used to be normal - not to long ago - is now considered to be very High, so they can attempt to get more people / humans on Prescription Blood Pressure medicine for "Big Pharma" so, they can make Big $$$$$$$ ~ !!!!

Also here in the US the Hours of service Driving hours have changed drastically with so much regulation & rules, its impossible to keep up with all the new changes

no longer can you just Drive for hours on end or till you feel tired or try to make up for lost time because of weather , traffic, break downs etc.

I quit driving in 2007 after 23 years with NO Accidents, thankfully, knock on wood, just lucky.

I'm now semi retired at 50, and enjoy doing as little as possible anymore , love to sleep, and Sim on the ol' FSX Simulator and make Video's.

anymore I just Fly, Eat and Sleep , especially in the Winter months ! :D

To know more about the Regulations & Rules I suggest you go here and read all kinds of articles on the subject.

They have been kicking this issue around for several years now. The Private Pilot physical exam wasn't all that tough to begin with. What most people got hammered on was high blood pressure. If you were over 50 years old (I think the limit was 50) then you had to have a physical every year. The problem I found was trying to find a Designated Medical Examiner (DME) when you don't live in a metropolis. The nearest one to me is about 70 miles away.
