I had just signed on the dotted to fix Her Majesties aircraft and run around with a gun from time to time.......oh, and drinking a lot, not sleeping long enough and going to work with a hangover from time to time.........

Same as Matt, I was working hard and partying hard. :obscene-drinkingbuddies: Damn I wish I still had that kind of energy!! I sure miss those dance joints like 'Pulsations' Rt.1 Glenn Mills Pa. Talk about going to work with a hangover, they had (all you can eat and drink wednesdays for $10.00) I suffered many painfull thursdays let me tell ya. Good Times!

Yes I was underage... I used my brothers liscence. :shhh: But don't tell them that. :D

Being a corporal in the Dutch Army. Which meant you were very busy doing nothing during daytime and you were very busy getting drunk and chasing women in the evening. Getting drunk worked everytime, the second? Nah...

At the age of 19 I was part-way through a 6-year apprenticeship as an Electrical Engineer, starting at the age of 16 in 1950, which kept me deferred from conscripted Military Service until I had completed my apprenticeship at the age of 21.
Having no wish to join anything "Military" I found this useful...until the fateful day arrived and I was called up for compulsory 2 years in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, British Army!
Not a happy time!
Getting "demobbed" after 2 years was one of the happiest days of my life!... ...!

I still prefer gentle General Aviation flying in FS '98, 2000, 2002, 2004, FSX Flight Sims, rather than blasting everything in sight with big guns and bombs in CFS 2, etc.... ...!

Me too, I am only 45, but my body is now trying to tell me from time to time, I am no longer 20 any more. I keep trying to ignore it, but then it kicks me in the rear and laughs at me after for example laying on my back propped up at an odd angle working on my MBG. Not helping in this matter is my wife, who then does the, " I told you so" routine.......

I also note, the military across several nations from posters above, has a strong running theme............ :obscene-drinkingbuddies: In the RAF, Thursday night was "bop" night on camp throughout the RAF. I can only assume that the powers to be made it Thursday in an attempt to ensure that the weekend was not spent in a complete alcoholic haze.........

Thursday night as it guarantees max revenue to "the bop". Friday, people ho home and/or hit the town. "In your day" you could probably get away with a bit more on a Thursday night. These days "happy hours" in the O's mess tend to be on Thursdays as people disappear on Friday. These days there's no working "with a hangover" the next day though, so thry're rather tame affairs!

At 19 I was shooting back at bad people in a far off land, all in Her Majesties name for the good of the Nation, or so I was told. Can't say where or when, Don't want THE MAN knocking at the door at 3,AM. to cart me off and reeducate me in the error of my ways.
