That is absolutely inexcusable. The flight instructor and the private pilot
should turn in there licences.

Three miles... I'm not sure, but I think he would've been able to glide in had he been making a normal (for us Texans) approach.

that's a good news, they should try to put giants parashots on large passeger jets too ,
