Very seldom visit this area but is it possible it could have been what we here call a "Harvard 2"?

They are usually an off dark blue, long nosed turbo prop and have a bit of a whine if you like to them.

Just a guess.

Possible, but highly unlikely. I've not known of them ever even visiting the UK!

If Doug means the T-6A TEXAN II then yes. http://www.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?fsID=124
Produced by Raytheon Aircraft, the T-6A Texan II is a military trainer version of Raytheon's Beech/Pilatus PC-9 Mk II.

What colour was it? This is getting more & more confusing. ::) LOL

All the Tucanos I've seen are black with RAF markings. They're also turboprops.

Ironically the only two Tucano's you'd see in the Southwest regularly are in the old Red/White/Grey/Black colours (ZF510/ZF511) and live at Boscombe...

As for the rest of the debate, seeing what you saw, what you heard, and being the only pointy nosed radial engined aircraft in the UK (due to the huge spinner), I think you saw a (Sea) Fury... (it has the "invasion" stripes too ;))

Possible, but highly unlikely. I've not known of them ever even visiting the UK!

Maybe we'll see one in the UK in a year or two...

It could always have been "Percy" the PC-9, albeit a long way from Warton...
