3000 A320's delivered out of 5000 orders. Aircraft first flew in1988

On the numbers, I would say that Air Bus is a nose ahead, but remember, this is a DC3 fan who likes to stir 8-)

And are opening a factory in China. That'll be a lot of aeroplanes if they corner the Chinese domestic markets...

Boeing's already done that.

Not quite...

Airbus I believe are planning a complete assembly plant, not just subcontracting assemblies to be supplied from the Asian sub-continent. Airbus have been doing that for the best part of 20 years anyway with the A320 family, and the A330 and A340 to a lesser extent.

Oh my, giving away all the trade secrets to such a country that might be competing with Airbus in the next 5-10 years?  China is NOT to be underestimated.

Learn from our mistakes.  Diring the Clinton Administration, the US helped China perfect their multi-stage rocket.  Now China is launching commercial payloads, competing with the US for contracts, with American technology.   ::)

To be fair, something like the A320 series isn't ground breaking technology, and China are well capable of developing their own technology (such as the J-10) or reverse engineering other types that are freely available. Considering the western airliners they've had before (Trident etc), I don't think civil aircraft really interest them. I think their politicians are still more interested in photos of lines of fighters with their pilots being marked out to them!

Remember this is about the 787, not 737 vs A320.

I can't wait till she flies, what a beaut! ;)

Well, part of her has anyway.  Rolls Royce recently flew their engine design and so has General Electric.  Check out my photos I took of the Rolls Royce first test flight here...

There's also a link to the RR media release.  You could likely google GE's engine as well.

Its a little stumpy, but definately a beautiful aircraft.  The sweeping wings and tail, the cockpit windows, and the engine nacelles all just look great.  I'm sure it will look much better after paint.  I know I can't wait to see it in the air either ;)

I'm not too keen on the cockpit windows in the first shot... but that's not the plane, that's just the angle.

I love the serrated edges near the back of the engine nacelles!!

However, what I miss most about the original 7E7 as opposed to the 787 is those unusual yet attractive cockpit windows... anyone remember those?

No, I don't remember those, but the concept 7E7 had a much cooler tail than the 787 has.

Well, got into work today to find out that the company that I work for has ordered 25 aircraft with an option for 25 more. Guess in the distant future I will be going back to school for another maintenance rating :-/

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
