When it comes to protections, the only Boeing aircraft that can measure up to the Airbus A330 is the B777.
But their FBW is designed differently, more manually controlled. But I'm positive they would perform similar in that scenario. Both aircrafts are extremely advanced and well designed.

I thought that FBW aircraft control uses the "synchro" concept whereby a synchro transmitter sends signal to a synchro receiver which in turn operate or control hydraulics. There is minimial use of hydraulic lines between the cockpit and the several associated systems such as landing gear, flaps, ailerons, etc. Instead it uses armored electric wires. But I may be wrong.

FBW is pretty much all the same. both send the signals down wires to the motors in the various surfaces that control the aircraft. Both have numerous routes for those signals take in the event of loss of one wire. The hydrolics are just there to make the movement of the surfaces that much easier. Earlier aircraft used a direct pully system I believe or something simmilar and as such the aircraft felt as heavy as it was, and thats why it took very fit pilots to fly them.

Well the newest Airbus - the A380 - despite it being an advanced FBW, it still has around 1km of hydraulic piping installed  ;D
