What really worries me is if it's not terrorism, what is it? Could this happen again to A B777? I know at this time, all our thoughts are with the next of kin and loved ones, but there's serious concern here.

Acts of terrorism are so rare, they don't even make it onto the statistics of aircraft crash reasons. I could only find figures up 2006, but from 1983 to 2006 there were "only" 16 air crashes that were attributed to terrorism. That compared to almost 500 commercial aircraft crashes between 1980 and yesterday...And as for concerns about 777, I would be more concerned about flying on a 737, maybe you should not look into how many of those have crashed in total.....

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

I've been reading what you guys wrote and heard some bits on the local news on this slowly unfolding
story.

I personally think that since they lost all contact and the flight crew made no attempt to radio in an S.O.S.
that it could be one of two things.

1. Possibly a catastrophic electrical failure that took out (among other things) communications.
or
2. Possibly a massive explosion with no warning of a problem at all.

"Let the past be your guide" .... "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it"

My two cents! :shifty:

I fink I will wait until all the experts have a good look into the cause....

...and publish the precise explanation...which will probably take a very long time to complete...

...in the meantime....a very bad day for all concerned.

You are so right Fozz. It's no use playing guessing games. We'll just have to wait it out. Just a huge loss of life, can't help but weep for them.

I still say it went down in the Water, possibly really Deep Water, maybe not even on the original intended flight path.

BUT - what if it didn't go down in the water ????

obviously by now nobody who lives in the area is reporting any smoke, fire, debris or wandering survivors,,,,,

if it went down in the water, you'd think, there'd be some floating debris :

Engine Nacelle parts

Wing parts

clothing, hats, jackets,

plastic oxygen masks

seat cushions , pillows

overhead luggage doors or parts

food , drinks,

basically anything plastic or lite weight & floatable

Very very Strange weird !!!

Watch it Turn up in the middle of the Mojave Desert or Sarah Desert with all passengers, found sitting outside the aircraft wondering what happened

and the aircraft in perfectly good shape !!!

What would ya'll think then ?????  :? :? :?

if that happens, I'm crawlin under my computer table - - and I'm goin into Hideing !!!

I was talkin' about this yesterday and had a thought, they should put the black box just under the fuselage
skin somewhere, and make it be able to break away from the plane only in the event the plane goes under
water.

I was thinking it could have a super tuff balloon that auto inflates bringing the recorder to the surface of the
water. It could have a coded beacon so they could locate it in no time at all.

It could have G.P.S. that would show the original location of the crash site. even if the recorder drifted for
hundreds of miles.

....

Good idea Blaze. I was thinking too that if they had a global system like OnStar integrated with the black boxes, they'd be able to know where they are at all times. Even shut the engines down if someone stole the plane. Better still, call the cops if the airbags were triggered. (They do have airbags don't they?)

I don't think so L.J. Cause I don't think airbags would do ya much good in a plane crash. :P

It's going to be interesting, particularly following the corporate tribal mud slinging after the Air France A330 crash. Even with the relative proximity to land expected in this case, there's a lot of sea to search, and a lot of space it could've been in if it was outside radar coverage when it crashed (which it seems it probably was, reading between the lines).

To have no communication of any sort, be it radio (HF in extremis) or data link does seem to point to something catastrophic, unlike the A330 which flew itself into the sea whilst the crew watched it.

Here's a link to the BBC showing Flight radar 24's last track. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26535248

In the years between 1964 and 1971, the RAF and other air forces lost so many aircraft in that area without finding a trace. Javelins, Hunters and Lightnings, I'm not sure if any Canberras went down. Even if we recovered the crew, the wreckage more often than not was never traced. A funny thing though, sometimes bits and pieces could be found in "Thieves market" in Singapore. Items such as nose wheel oleos and aluminium pieces such as hatches and inspection panels. Heaven knows where they found them.
