XH558 Completed!

I'm happy to tell you all, that XH558's rebuild is now complete, and she is 100% serviceable.

She is now sat in her hangar at Bruntingthorpe awaiting the 'Paperwork Trail' to came to an end, and be signed off as 'Fit To Fly'

It's coming very soon gents.

Slight difference now is that the completed work is the work that came as a result of the initial engine and systems tests...

The last chance to display it this season would be at Duxford on 14th October. That's less than two weeks away. I can't see it happening. :-/

You aren't seriously still doubting the fact that it'll take to the skies? There'd have to be some major issue that the CAA happen to discover at this very late stage to ground it permanently.

Yes, it's unlikely that it'll make an appearance at an airshow this season, but that's a different story all together...

That'll give them plenty of time over the closed season to get everything sorted and a full routine worked up and DA'd ready for the start of next season....

riot or not, if the planes not airworthy then it wont be allowed to fly, regardless of how many millions may have been spent. It'll fly if its safe, it wont if it's not, the CAA have no hidden agenda.

Like Craig and Doug I'll believe it when I see it (which alas is unlikely to be this year, for me but not for you guys possibly). I was at 558s last flight, I still have a mountain of Vulcan stuff here from books to my XH558 sweatshirt (quality stuff lasts forever). If she gets flying (which I consider likely but not certain) then I'll be looking for an airshow in mid-August next year to see her once more strutting her stuff 8-)
I still get a big grin on my chops when I remember her last airshow, my best friend Steve and myself were there and she came over flat-out! Below regulation minimum altitude and like a bat out of hell. She was over a mile downrange before you could hear thousands of people screaming in joy and several trillion car alarms screaming as the vibrations from the noise had set them off 8-) Cooler than liquid nitrogen

I too have good memories of XH558 doing her stuff, but like Doug, I will not get excited until I actually see the thing in the sky. Besides, without a major sponsor on board, it may only ever make a few test flights before it joins the Sea Vixen on the "Airworthy but too expensive to operate" list.

Rumour has it that the Sea Vixen does indeed have a sponsor now.

And none of us know whether XH558 actually has sponsors lined up or not... fingers crossed, but only time will tell!
