Hi Woodlouse you are probably right about Ocean Yacht Racing although some of the pilots and crews that compete at the Reno Air Races yearly are probably right up there as far as expenses go with the yachting folks.
I think it would be an interesting comparison if we could find info on it.

When you do decide to take lessons try taking them on your holidays and when the weather is fine.
You will find your progress will be much smoother especially with less poor weather days.
You might also find you will save a little money as you are not having to re-book lessons all the time...that is when an instructor will usually spend time going over the previous lesson with you as there has been a time lapse.
Commit yourself fully to obtaining your licence in the quickest time you can...on holidays one can fly several times a day where you might be down to one hour a week and going to school or trying to work at the same time.
