Okay I am officially stumped

Postby jrbirdman » Wed Nov 21, 2012 3:36 am

I was just watching the movie Hot Shots and, along with the Folland Gnats, there was another type of plane with them during the formation scenes. Can anyone ID it for me please? Kind regards, Jeremy

I am not sure what formation scenes you are referring to but I will take a crack at it.

They fly the Gnats, in the beginning they fly T-38s/F-5s (the 'accident' with Topper's dad).
In the ramp scenes you can see a lot of QF-100 drones, some late model of F-4s, and some miscellaneous transports.

In the 'air combat' scenes for enemy aircraft I see F-5s and either the 2 seat F-5 or T-38.

Any of them really. If you look carefully while they are in flight, there is 2 Gnats, and one that is a twin seater with a straight wing and a tail similar to a Westwind.

The only 2 seater jets I saw were T-38s or the 2 seat F-5
