I just hope it can provide some answers and help bring closure to the families of the dead.

Their statement of may be able to get data from it brought a question to mind. In this day of technology, why not have the instrument transmit the data in burst signals

until it stops recording, once an emergency has begun? I'm sure reliable sensors could be made that would activate the transmission at the proper time. Then they would

at least have the data in the event of total destruction to the box.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

The cockpit voice recorder has been recovered and it appears to be in good physical condition!

I have no doubt that they will be able to pull data off these devices.  Studying digital forensics here at the uni has shown me that these devices are EXTREMELY durable!

I once read a case about a computer that was involved in Hurricane Katrina, this puppy was underwater for at least a month.  But with the proper care by the examiner the data was pulled off the water-logged hard-drive and was completely readable!.

Best wishes to all who were involved in this tragedy

Just saw on CNN that all of the data from both boxes was able to be recovered totally intact.

Awesome job by all involved in the search and recovery.

I think though that the analysis will serve to add to the misery of the survivors.  If the cabin stayed intact during a freefall from altitude, the survivors will realize how long their loved ones knew what was coming.

Disturbing news;

PARIS (Reuters) - Airbus said on Friday that preliminary information released by French air authorities on the Rio-Paris airplane crash was a "significant step" in understanding the causes of the crash, which killed all 228 people on board.
"The BEA's work constitutes a significant step towards the identification of the complete chain of events that led to the tragic accident of Air France flight 447 in June 2009," said Airbus in a statement.
France's BEA air accident authority released information on Friday indicating that the pilots battled with controls for more than four minutes before the Airbus A330 airliner plunged into the Atlantic on June 1, 2009.
