Logic behind registration country codes

Postby Ivan » Sun Feb 27, 2011 11:21 am

Anyone on here knows more about the history behind the country part of aircraft registration

Dutch: Was 'H' for Holland, changed to 'PH', 'PJ' and 'PK'
UK: 'G' for Great Britain
Iran: 'EP' Empire of Perisa.
China: 'B' for Beijing

But why did the US get the 'N', and where do all those 'V*' codes come from that are often used by ex-british colonies
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

Not sure this answers your question, but it is an interesting read.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
