Plane ditches safely...

Postby beaky » Thu Jan 15, 2009 7:50 pm

... after engine failure following bird strike shortly after takeoff!! Cabin crew does excellent job of preparing and evacuating passengers!! Ferry crews and emergency people assist in record time!!EveryoneOK!!

If only the general public would remember it that way... ::)
But of course I'll be hearing for months about the"plane crash"... when "a bird cut the engine" and "the small 120-seat jet fell out of the sky"... Ugh. (these are all real media quotes, BTW).

Anyway, this occured very close to the office, but by the time I got down there, it was nearly impossible to get close enough to where I could see the aircraft... in fact, I heard they'd already towed it to another location (presumably they managed to keep it afloat somehow).

It would have been something to see that brilliantly-executed emergency procedure... glad everyone is OK!! :)

I know, but it's the first without the word "crash" in the title. It needed to be said:
THIS WAS NOT A CRASH.

Superb bit of work by all the crew, some of the passengers didn't even get their feet wet :o
