I would love to have seen that single engined B17 on a nice low pass at Duxford for example. An interesting list.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

The pic of the Lockheed L133 project proves the Soviets had spies in the US! ;)

Now, where can I find the FSX versions? ;) ;D 8-)

I've used this one for a screen shot! :http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?aircraft_genericsearch=Caproni%20Stipa&distinct_entry=true

Awsome pic archive! Thanx! 8-)

Never saw that B-17 but I did see the Tyne Lincoln at Farnborough in the 1950s. It performed very well on the fifth engine. http://1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/CollierMaurice/4610.htm

You could have seen that very B-17 at Duxford last month...

...which is what lets that page down. AFAIK N5111N, now known as "Liberty Belle" (which came across the pond in July) never had any engines removed, only the re-location of the cockpit about 3ft rearwards to accommodate the various PW turboprops installed.

No elf and safety back then ;D That must have been a an incredible site, such a bit aircraft on one engine. The pilot must have had big ones to shut down his engines and run around on just one :-?

Do you have any info on this project, I have googled it, but ony come up with the picture link?

The Farnborough Air Show was something worth seeing in those days. Lancasters & Lincolns were used as test beds by different engine manufacturers. A quick search on Google came up with this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Lincoln#Turbojet_and_turboprop_testbeds

I might have more info in my reference books but don't hold your breath. Charlie might be able to help.

As luck would have it, last month I purchased this.

Lancaster test beds:

TW911, AS Python tp (x2 replacing outboard Merlins)

NG465, RR Dart tp (nose)

RA805, used to test the Dovern, apparently Swedish jet, bomb bay mounted, with afterburner in later tests.

LL735, used to test several early Metrovick jet engines, "rear turret" (aft) mounted, or bomb bay.

ND784, AS A.S.X, bomb bay mounted. Later used to test the Mamba turboprop (nose mounted), and then the Adder and Viper jets, in aft mounts.

FM209 (Canadian), with two Orenda TR5 jets in place of the outer Merlins.

Lincolns:

RA643, Phoebus in bomb bay.

RA716, two Theseus tp replacing outer Merlins, later replaced with Avon turbojets.

RE339, RF403, two A-S Python tps replacing outer Merlins.

SX972, 2x Proteus replaceing outer Merlins.

SX971, one RR Derwent jet mounted in nacelle under fuselage.

RF530, nose mounted RR Tyne tp, then replaced with Napier Naiad tp.

RF402, Naiad and double Naiad, both nose mounted.

SX973, Napier Nomad tp in nose.

Lancastrians (nearly done!):

VM732, two Avons in liieu of outer Merlins. VL970 similar.

VM704, 4 Griffons replacing 4 Merlins.

VM733, 2 outboard A-S Sapphires in place of outer Merlins.

VM703, ditto, but with DH Ghosts. VM749 similar.

VM737, VM742, ditto, but with RR Nenes...

Done! ;D
