Never saw that B-17 but I did see the Tyne Lincoln at Farnborough in the 1950s. It performed very well on the fifth engine. http://1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/CollierMaurice/4610.htm

No elf and safety back thenThat must have been a an incredible site, such a bit aircraft on one engine. The pilot must have had big ones to shut down his engines and run around on just one :-?

The Farnborough Air Show was something worth seeing in those days. Lancasters & Lincolns were used as test beds by different engine manufacturers. A quick search on Google came up with this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Lincoln#Turbojet_and_turboprop_testbeds
