US registration fonts

Desperation here, does anyone know what font is used for the slanted type US aircraft registrations?

Typically like this:-

Searched on google and so on, but searching for US aircraft reg number fonts doesnt typicaly bring up the answer!!!

Is it specified? I thought that as long as it is legible (or the aircraft had a dispensation, such as warbirds) then it could be any font you liked. :-?

You might find this interesting. FAA regulations in a nutshell. Not much help as regards the font though.

bah...ive already been through the FAA regulations on registrations and stuff - seems as noted you can have what you like as long as it conforms to various sizes......

Thanks though guys. Ive used AmarilloUSAF - its pretty close and best i can find!

I use a font called Eurostile

You need to alter the proportion slightly in the character box and use a capital I for number 1 but that should do you.

Some of the other US styles can be had from the RAF/RN serial/code fonts .

A lot of aeroplane painting especially in the old days were not fonts as we know it but signwriters following instructions.
