Investigation "Wellington Bomber Crash"

Hi all,

I haven't posted on simv for awhile I see its changed yet again!

I was reading a website dedicated to old boys (former pupils) from my school and one student in the 1940s recalls a Wellington bomber crashing in flames in a field near the local farm (he later found it was on a test flight when it crashed.).

On a foggy morning a Wellington bomber on a test flight crashed and burst into flames in a field near Daylesford Hill Farm. Our first thoughts were that it had come from Moreton in Marsh but in recent years I have ascertained that this was not so.

Also I am unable to get this guy's contacts...

Now will there be any record kept of none combat losses, so is there any way I can find out were this Wellington was based and were it exactly crashed?

Do you have a date or is 1940s the best we have? Do we know if it was pre end of war?

No date, All I know is that it was 1941

They have one training loss for 1941 listed, but it is East Anglia.

Sadly it will never be a complete record due to the reasons stated by its author.

I know of someone who may know though:

Gerry Tyack, at the Wellington Aviation Museum, Moreton-in-Marsh. try dropping him a line or email, or have a visit to the interesting little collection (don't trust the opening times on the website, call them to confirm opening - he's now 84 and only really expects to open at weekends!). His email address is on the site too. When I popped in we ended up chatting for half an hour or so, then he took me round his rather nice collection of aviation artwork.

Daylesford Hill Farm is on Oxfordshire

Tis indeed - about 20 minutes drive north of me. It is about 4 miles on the extented centreline of Little Rissington's main runway (Little Rissington was home of the Blind Approach Training Flt at the time), and 4.5 miles from Moreton-in-Marsh.

Yeah ive been there before about 4 times great place, nice guy as well, I will make an effort to go again and ask the man.
