Although the details are as yet unknown, I'll bet this was just one of those automated system (throttles specifically) hiccups that would have been less of a big deal in cruise (where there would be time to sort it out and get the engines lit again), but could not be troubleshot on short final, requiring a manual emergency landing.

Yet another example of why I will never fly on a plane without a human pilot. ;D
