Boeing and Airbus

OK, so Airbus are in a lot of financial trouble right now and i't's far from certain that they can recover...but I wonder, can Airbus or Boeing be "allowed" to liquidate?  If they did we would have a monopoly on the jet airliner market and they're so advanced in the market that another company (Bombardier, Embraer, etc) would never be able to compete against the remaining big one.

No. Certain goverments wouldn't allow a company to go bust (which it won't anyway), although one other goverment in particular wouldn't mind if their company had a total monopoly on the large medium and long haul markets...

You mean a "certain government", no "s". Maybe the same one that subsidises it's national carrier and car makers at the same time giving the finger to EU rules and suing RyanAir for obtaining reduced landing fees in Europe because it is against EU rules  ;D
