Unflown planes

Postby chornedsnorkack » Fri Nov 16, 2007 8:25 am

Boeing 787 was rolled out on 8th of July, 2007. It was supposed to fly on 27th of August, 2007.

It has not flown.

Boeing 787 is supposed to be delayed by half a year. Once upon a time, Airbus 380 was supposed to be delayed by half a year, too. Then it was delayed again, by a year that time... but eventually A380 did enter service.

Dornier 728 was rolled out on 21st of March, 2002. It had 150 or so orders from respectable airlines like Lufthansa, and was supposed to fly and enter service.

It has not flown.

When would Boeing 787 fly? And would Boeing 787 fly, ever?

The 787 will fly.  I wouldn't be shocked at delays for something such as a new aircraft.  We are talking about a very complicated piece of machinery that has to undergo a lot of testing and certification.  When was the last time you heard of a first flight happening on time.  For once it isn't the company's fault for the delay.  There is a world-wide shortage of fasteners that are needed to fully construct the 787.

Because shortly after that deadline, Dornier went bust and no longer exits.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Airliners.net says...
However, before the first flight of the 728 had been made, Fairchild Dornier filed for insolvency on April 2 2002, and the whole ambitious program came to an end.

Boeing is not going to file for insolvency anytime soon.

This happens with every major rollout. Very rarely does a new aircraft fly the day it's planned.

DL1 is getting its electronics, insulation, and other wiring completed now.  They're slowly approaching first power on with the first machine and have only a handful of fasteners to replace still.

Also the will start final assembly on DL2, 3, and 4 in the next few weeks.  At least with 2, 3, and 4 on their way (with fuselage sections pre-wired and ready to go) they will be able to share tasks in flight testing to make up for lost time.  At least that's how I understand it at this point.
