Ramp rats ought to be paid well- to do something else, in addition to "minding the store". It's a dead-end career, hence the wages.  An apprentice maintenance tech or somebody like that ought to do ramp service.
I don't fly anything fancy, but I've always found ramp rats to be superfluous for my purposes. I have always thought: "Geez, I hope they have something better to do, for their sake as well as their employers..."
Also:
I don't want anybody but me checking fuel or oil levels, or adding fuel or even touching the aircraft. I'm happy to observe someone competent do these things, but I am equally happy to be left on my own.
I only need to be pointed in the general direction of my parking spot- I don't need to be waved into my slot, and chocked, when I'm driving a 172. LOL!!

But I respect and support underpaid ramp-rats everywhere, and appreciate a little professional pride wherever I find it.
Every other business in flying is organized- why not GA ramp workers?
