Belgian AF shopping spree expected?

Postby nils » Tue May 08, 2007 1:20 pm

a rumor is spreading here in the Belgian MoD about the purchase of multiple transport aircraft.
according to BAHA.be, the Belgian Air Component plans to replace 1 of the 2 A-310's by a new build A-330. this rumor seems verry likely as the A-310's are suffering from poor servicability and engine problems. on several occasions the airbus was stranded abroad due to those problems. plans are once the A-330 is in service, the other A-310 would be stripped of all usefull parts to contineu operations for the other aircraft. the A-310's were bought from Singapore airlines in 1997 to replace 2 elderly 727's.

another rumor is the plans to replace the 2 (recently upgraded) Falcon 20's and 1 falcon 900B. for this the COMOPSAIR has plans ro replace all 3 aircraft with 2 Embraer Legacy jets.

only last week the Belgian goverment agreed on the purchase of 8 NH90's (4 TTH and 4 NFH) with an option for 2 more. it looks like this will not be the only purchase for the next 3 years, as the Airbus and Embraer plans are rumored to be executed before 2011. im just hoping these rumors are true  8-)

Nice!

And I'm quite surprised that they're interested in the NH-90. :o
