Flight 09
01-23-95

Sky clear; wind 300/04; cold

1.5 dual
1 landing

"norm t/o & lndg, 4 fund in cruise, slow flight & MCA, power off stalls, imm and full"

I don't mind saying that this particular takeoff is... magnificent!
I've got the little 150 crabbed early and reasonably well as we begin our climb. A glance in the mirror shows Runway 06 falling straight behind. Now, this is more like it...

I bring her about at altitude to head for the practice area, and F. asks me to do some MCA work. He then takes over to demonstrate a simulated go-around, using a parking lot as the "runway". I'm eager to try it myself, but he tells me to do some more stalls, followed by some 360s. At one point 86S penetrates her own wake as I bring her around- very satisfying!
I'm feeling quite at ease this time. the mood is jovial, the engine is running quite smoothly with the carb heat on just in case, and soon F. is joking about flying under the nearby Tappan Zee Bridge. He also gets me laughing nervously about engine failures, and explains that his earlier "simulated go-around" was actually a simulated emergency landing.

A few minutes later, as I apply more power to climb, my seat comes loose on its rails, and I'm jerked back a bit, away from the controls. No big deal, but it inspires me to never, ever take off again without confirming first that the seat is secure.

Again, F. rides the controls with me during the landing back at Teterboro, and it's a good thing, too, as I wind up veering off-center a bit just before rounding out.
despite that, I feel that I'm making real progress.
