Sightings for January 7

Postby rootbeer » Mon Jan 08, 2007 12:28 am

I was coming home today, travelling northbound on US95 through Indian Springs, NV when I saw it. I saw one of those drones, or RPVs, the military uses nowadays to scout an area without endangering any personnel. Indian Springs is where Creech AFB is. It's where the Thunderbirds are hangared and where they practrice. I've seen them tearin' it up out there more than once. This drone was the kind with the bulbous nose and the inverted V tail. It was on approach and just before it would have touched down, it rose up again for another go-round. It flew almost directly over a schoolbus. It looked to be much bigger than the bus. I was no more than a quarter-mile away, I guess.

I saw the 'Birds last week as I was going home. There were three in a very tight delta formation. They were doing low-level flybys and tight turns out over the desert. There was plenty of smoke in evidence...

It was quiet at Nellis today. I saw just one airplane take off: a jumbo jet that no doubt was serving as a flying gas station.  I think it was a DC-10-- or KC-10 for those of you who demand the proper nomenclature be used.

I think I saw a bevy of F-22s last week, too. The sun was very bright and I wasn't wearing my sunglasses, so I can't say for sure. I see the airplanes from 2.2 miles from the northern end of the runway. It's late now, so I don't have time to give you the co-ordinates from Google Earth as to where I am when I see all this great stuff...
