What's the story on that one?  I don't think anyone would choose to land a 747 on that strip.  Look at the way those engines pick up the dirt and debris from off of the runway.  I don't think you'd want to just fly it out of there without a thorough engine inspection...

The 747 I mentioned hasn't taken off again since it landed, and I doubt this one will either - Rand Airport is one of the homes of the South African Airways Museum... :)

The aircraft you are refering to - The Lubumbo (something like that) was a 747-200 and it was flown to that airport only to be retired. It will never fly again :)

That's an SP.

FOD isn't as big of a problem as taking off again. The wheels don't even make it on the runway. ;D
