I think that is true. Here is a video of another F-16 birdstrike.

The pilot tried restarting and stayed in until he had to eject.

That video is actually mislabeled all over the place, it's actually a Canadian BAe Hawk taking off on a training mission, not an F-16.  You can tell because it's not "Bitch'n Betty" that's telling them their airplane is broke, it's a guy with a silly accent like the one you guys across the pond have. ;)

Here's a quote from another forum:
The aircraft is a BAe Hawk that is flown by the advanced students at 2 CFFTS (Canadian Forces Flying Training School) out of 15 Wing, CFB Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.

The student and IP pulled up to the right (north) off the inner and both ejected safely. The IP suffered some lower back injury while the student is fine.

That video is scary though, watching those last seconds before the crash...:P

That sounds a tad dangerous. I thought the idea was to point the aircraft away from inhabited areas (i.e out to sea) before punching out, if at all possible.

I'm sure that would be the preference but if you're in a built up area without enough air speed or altitude a big semi-emtpy airport would be a better place to put an F16 than a school or neighborhood.

If you're over a built up area in an F16 without the airspeed or altitude to recover safely, you're probably in the wrong place/being negligent. When push comes to shove, if you have to get out pronto, once you pull the handle, it's not in your hands.
