How long before they blame it on the U.S.?

No idea... That would be the case if it was an Airbus, Fokker, Boeing or Tu-204 (The ones at Mahan Air have RR engines)
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

Bit late:
you know what the main reason is that people still prefer airlines over road travel in Iran (apart from the price)

Projected number of road accident casualties for 2006 is 30,000 minimum.
