Unfortunately that thing is a pig. i barely get 500 fpm with full fuel and full climb power.

It's a 180 HP with all the retractable gear mechanisms to haul up along with my fat-ass, John's and 60 gallons of fuel.

Retracts are heavier because of all the gear ... so carrying a 3rd person could be iffy.

Maybe if it gets colder it will get better climb rate ... we'll see.

The cherokee has no problem climbing with 3 people ... you saw it. We were getting 1100 fpm with 3 people and full fuel on a hot day.

Didn't realize it waas only a 180... and even minus the retract gear, it's a slightly heavier airframe in general than, say, 715... and 715 also has a 180. Definitely climbs better than your average 172, but I was a little disappointed with the cruise speed- aat 2500-3000 feet with 2400 rpm, it was indicating just over 100 knots- not any  better than any 150-powered 172 I've ever flown.  Might have a climb prop on it or something.Haven't taken her over 3000 yet, though., so who knows?
Maybe I should take you guys for a ride sometime.... reminds me: the EAA chapter at 47N is doing a fly-in to Blairstown the 2nd weekend  in October to go horseback riding.Did you know? It's open to non-members, too.
