Eurocontrol - Payment for use of Airspace consultation
04/09/2004

Eurocontrol, the agency responsible for the future management of all EU airspace, have produced a consultation document relating to user payment for use of airspace. The consultation period is very short - the closing date is 17 Sep 04.

The BGA has drafted a response that will be considered in full by the BGA Executive in the next few days. The BGA is also making representation through Europe Air Sports.

Once the BGA has finalised its response, the document will be made available on the BGA website.

The scheme proposes charging for all flights whether commercial international flights under IFR using airways or light aircraft, gliders, balloons, microlights, hang gliders or para gliders making VFR cross country flights.

All pilots are urged to respond to this proposal as a matter of urgency
Eurocontrol will only accept responses on the appropriate form

All relevant documentation can be downloaded in pdf format from the following links

Hmmm. First I've heard of this. It looks a tad worrying. Aviation seems to be the latest target of the bureaucrats & politicians. Once these people get involved there's no telling where it will all end. ::)

The scheme proposes charging for all flights whether commercial international flights under IFR using airways or light aircraft, gliders, balloons, microlights, hang gliders or para gliders making VFR cross country flights.

This seems to cover just about anyone who flies. It will hit the private pilot worst of all. Light aviation is expensive enough already & regulated too much now. IMHO
