Have you noticed the strip of Velcro down the centre of the slide?
In an emergency the attendants supply all the passengers with a pair of trousers with a Velcro patch sewn onto the rear.
This reduces the speed of descent somewhat.
At the moment this safety feature is only fitted to the A 380 Airbus series with
very steep emergency slides.
Whether the idea is taken up by other operators depends of further tests being made to determin the possibility of passengers being permanantly stuck to the slide which would tend to slow down, or even prevent, an escape.
Further details can be found in Airworthiness Directive 442.35 v 23 1/2, Published by Fozzers Inc.
