Flying 4-Engined Bombers.

Postby C » Sun Jul 17, 2016 3:30 pm

There was good news on the historic bomber front today:

First, PA474 the Avro Lancaster of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, flew for the first time in 2016. It suffered a mid air engine fire last year and then had issues with its fuel tanks so has had a protracted grounding. Hopefully that's it now til its next "Major" service (where it'll receive the tailplane in a swap from Lancaster FM212 which spent most of its days on a pole in Windsor, ON and is now under static restoration).

Then, mid afternoon UK time, the world's population of airborne B-29 Superfortresses doubled!

I first remember reading about the possibility of it happening in the mid-90s!

Having lived in Windsor for 20 years, 79 to 99 I lived just a few blocks from Jackson Park where FM 212 was on display. Then it was in sad shape. I believe that 364 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron is helping out with the restoration. It needs tender loving care.
