Hi all,

The north and south flights on 10th/11th Oct are not the last ones, there will be at least two more flights, I wouldn't attempt to get anywhere near Finningley as the police will only allow essential airport and local residential traffic.

Also it doesn't show it on the northen flight but she is expected to fly over the old location of av roe in Chadderton, my dads workplace after he left the Raf in the 50's

regards Steve

I never did get to see her fly....
However, one thing I will never forget.......When I was on 617sqn at Marham in the early 90s, the aircraft was stationed at Scampton, but did practice displays at Marham. Most of this took place at our side of the airfield. Part of the display was a turn and near vertical climb that always took place right over the top of the crew room. If you did not hold onto your coffee mug, it would vibrate off the table.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Just a little more info

You would think at £2m per year operating costs someone would cough up. There are Russian oligarch's kids who have £40 million spending money per year ..... Not to mention billions wasted all over the world in all kinds of stupidity ...
But then again - what is it? An historical piece of aviation ....

They've done very well to cover the costs since its last last flight in 1993 and the campaign to get it airborne for the past 14 years or so. One of the hurdles then was getting engineering support and eventually it was always going to be withdrawn at some stage. Cooking two of the last 6 engines with silica gel sachets probably didn't help RR's decision too...

I was stationed at Scampton about 1963 -65 and remember the 4 squadrons of Vulcans there. 27,83, 617 and 230OCU. It was always a thrill to watch Take offs and landings, especially parked in a Landrover at 05 end. During the Queens visit, they had a pracyice QRA take off, 4 aircraft inside of 2 minutes. Should have heard the racket then. After Scampton I was posted to Nairobi, and had the dubious pleasure of mounting guard on a visiting Vulcan on the way to Australia.

I also had a spell at Marham until I demobbed in 1972 with Victor re-fuellers.
