Having worked with a couple of Russian airlines, I would say that appropriate palms were not greased.....

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

That's exactly why I was wondering this ...... mad mad world ... and the west is just as bad, if not much worse -- just in a different mental and metaphorical language

But there is a big legal difference. The Russians have it much worse since there is hardly any rule of law, with justice and property rights only secure as long as you can bribe officials, judges, and cops. I don't think you can compare the west with what's going on in Russia. They are two very different worlds. Over there, capitalism is a front for organized crime and money laundering. Go outside Moscow or St. Petersburg and you'll see near third-world conditions everywhere. Aeroflot will eat Transaero, and the oligarchs will reap bigger profits.
