Our air show has been permanantly canceled

Postby Steve M » Mon Mar 09, 2015 4:44 pm

I got an Email today that made me feel sad. More and more we will hear this same message around the globe. The huge costs of air shows and dependency on weather and insurance rates are slowly killing the modern day barnstormers. WITHOUT getting political it pisses me off that our region lends financial aid to music and art venues and has no time for airshows. But anyway here is the Email..
.......................................................

Dear Steve,

It is with profound sadness we announce the Waterloo Air Show has been cancelled. Attempts to make the event self-funding over 4 years were unsuccessful. The producers are no longer able to sustain the financial losses.

The entire team would like to thank you for your support in previous years. It was our honour to have connected with everyone through aviation and history. The memories of putting smiles on our audience's faces, especially when the pilots wave as they taxi by or when you can smell and feel the heat from the engines or pyro, will stay with us forever.

The entire Waterloo Air Show team takes pride that we have been through tremendous obstacles and challenges together as an extended family. Many friendships and relationships were formed. We are proud to have created many lifetime memories and conversations for not only our audience, but for our volunteers and performers as well.

Thank you again for your support.

Take care and Blue Skies,

Its a shame, Steve, but I suppose its the same with anything, everything requires money, and if sufficient money is not available the exercise will fail.

Its the same with Airfields, slowly closing down.

Lack of sufficient funds is presently affecting my ability to purchase my new Motorcycle.... ...!

We all need more money!

Paul....donations gratefully accepted towards my new Cruiser... ;) ...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Fortunately the UK Air Show calendar still looks healthy enough. http://www.britishairshows.com/calendar.html

Thanks for the comments, Doug and Paul, although we here in my area will still have shows to attend in outer areas, this one was local and a short drive, so I'm sad to see it go.

Yea it was a tough stretch for a while all over with the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds grounded on the circuit even for those who had them headlining shows across the country once they sat idle it hurt all shows. Small shows would need to alternate bigger names in like Skip Stewart, Sean D Tucker, Patty Wagstaff and the likes to keep afloat. The economy is still bad just look at the mainstream NASCAR events with more and more empty seats, people can't afford them any longer.
As well I don't want to get to political with the matter, but I hate seeing what is going on.

Goodly morning Steve... :)

It is happening all over...cancellations here...cancellations there...

Wonder if the powers to be have thought of holding the airshow every third year :?:

It will take a lot of Public support to get this stupid Liberal Provincial Government to smarten up...

Hell...they paid many thousands of dollars to place rocks in prominent spots...wish I had known that...we had lots of rocks we could have sold them clowns on the Old Homestead...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
