Back in the 90's my future X-wife and I took an airplane ride at the Pottstown Municipal Airport. It cost 15 bucks each for a 15-minute ride.
without a doubt the best money I ever spent. I can't remember what make plane it was but I do remember it was a mooney style aircraft.

after we leveled out, the pilot reached down between his legs and flipped a lever and told me "she's all yours" I flew over route 422 and
circled the limerick power plant then (at his offering) flew it back to the airport, circled around and lined up for landing. That 15-minutes
turned into like 25 or 30 minutes. This guy was cool.

He asked me if I wanted to land, I paused and said... No!. Once we were back on the ground I asked him if he was serious, he said No!
That was alot of fun for 30 bucks. Better then any amusement park ride. I can't wait to do it again someday.

What was that lever he flipped before he let me fly I wonder? I always told people it was some kind of rudder lock.

Excellent read, Dwayne!

Its a funny old do...

During our flights, we think that the pilot is letting us have full control of the Aeroplane... ...!

But...NO!..... ...!

He is controlling the yoke, the rudder, trim wheel, carburettor heat, and throttle+mixture, etc, etc....and keeping a wary eye out for other Aircraft in the sky all around us!

We just THINK that we have full control!... ...!

Paul... ...!

Hi Paul,

Yeah that was alot of fun. I didn't think about all the work he was doing behind the scenes cause well, in those day I had no idea
of what the heck all those gauges, switches and knobs were for.

But I can say for sure that I had complete control of the yoke. :auto-driving: I asked him if I could fly over towards the power plant and
he said "yeah go-hed". Then when I got over there he told me not to get to close cause they don't like that. Gee! I wonder why they don't
like you flying an aircraft to close to a power plant? :shifty:

I remember looking over my left sholder at my wife and she was looking out the window, so I rolled the plane to the port side to give her
a good look at the ground.

I wish I could get my pilots license Paul. It felt so good and natural. Even if all I was doing in a sence was sitting on dads lap as a child
behind the wheel of his '66 ford and thinking "WOW.. I can drive!!"

Boy do I hate to revive and old thread(I've been inactive for a loooong time) but I believe this occasion is justified. I am the OP and I'd just like to update everyone. I passed my PPL checkride back on June 16th and I now fly my friends and family around on the weekends! This coming fall I will be attending SIU in Carbondale to finish my flight training. Who else here is a licensed pilot?

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
