8000 is quite a milestone..........and sadly, also the highest crash rate of any aircraft ever produced......

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

You got me thinking, so I looked it up.

I guess it all depends on how you look at it.

On the one hand, the Airbus A310 has a "Fatal Crash Rates Per Million Flights" of 1.36.

The worst Boeing, the 737-100/200, is .61. And for ALL Boeing models it's .29.


However, the Airbus A310 is listed as having only 4.69 million flights.

The 737-100/200 is listed as having had 58.29 million flights.

For ALL Boeing 737 types it's 175.61 million flights.



As to Which type of flying is safer

My father loved the little Minipig, as he called the 737 :) He flew them for United for a lotta years back late 60-late 70's, Mostly commuter hops up and down the California/Oregon/Washington routes. SFO>LAX>SFO>PDX>SEA>PDX>SFO was the day's usual plan. United Still flies those routes I think...

Crashes per million flights, I have always thought of as a way to massage the figures to look better. Hull loses are the way it should be looked at, as bits of metal on the ground are far more representative than a figure made up by someone who wants to sell a smiling result.......?
