New Chipmunk Mk. 23R!

The Chip-Chaps will begin flying with their new Chipmunk-retractables Mk. 23R on April 1.. The conversion gives the Chipmunk a 10 knot speed advantage and markedly reduced fuel consumption. All five aircraft have now been converted and with the new tear-drop canopies, delivered later this year, another 2 knots increase in cruise speed will be attained.
Enginewise the direct injection gives new opportunities for inverted flight in the airshow displays and the new three-blader with variable pitch adds to agility.

MK23 F. For lakes with retractable floats were deemed impossible - but were considered.

Doesn't look quite right without the wheels dangling down, but a great idea!

Yes...but without the smoke... :D

Most of our Chippies had the bubble canopy and many had wheel/skis...

Several years ago I flew a civilian Chippie with a partial fabric wing...not many of them around anymore.
Can't remember if the main spar was wood or not...been awhile...

I only ever flew the straight canopy. Still have a massive soft spot for the old Chippie 8-)
