Come on, You know us crazy, wasteful, rich Americans can live with a car that gets more than 10 MPG. ;D

It's a shame really, but there just isn't a market for them here yet. Half the people here like the comfort and "sense of security" a larger vehicle provides, and the other half likely wouldn't buy a sub-compact because of the fools in the larger cars and SUVs that drive like they are invincible.

AB, nice ride though, really. Driving your very own car for the first time, is something you'll remember for the rest of your life! Enjoy it, but be careful!

At around $7.50 per gallon(US ((about $9 for a proper gallon))) here in Germany, how long would the US car industry survive producing what are affectionately know as Yank Tanks that do 10 to 20 miles to the gallon. As much as it hurts the national pride, the sooner the American auto industry starts taking some advice from Europe and the Japanese about how to build efficient internal combustion engines the better. The love affair with the automobile could be dragged out by 10's of years with the fuel saving. The argument that they could not sell small engined cars and trucks will soon evaporate when you (and you will in the end it is just a matter of time) start paying up around $5 a gallon.

Matt

PS......how is it possible that Detroit produces a zillion litre V8's and only gets a couple of hundred horses out of them. We can do that with a 1.8L and still get 40 miles to the gallon

Every time we get a post here from one of our School Lads across the Pond telling us all about his new Motor Car he has obtained, my first though is; how can he afford the high Insurance Premium out of his weekly Pocket Money allowance?... :o...!

The annual Insurance Premium for my present Honda Superbike is

What high insurance premium?

A 2005 BMW M3 in California would cost me (if I were age 20) from $80 something per month. Under a grand for the year! And I, a 17 year old, in a Seat Leon 1.6, have to pay around two or more times that on the right side of the pond.

Small cars are great. Around 60MPG for a car like that (not too dissimilar to many motorbikes) and easy to park in car parks where chunky landrovers or annoying car drivers park too close to the lines.

did you speed test the doors already?
These cars are notorious for the doors trying to leave the car when going over 100kmh

Not a bad little motor, very practical for in-town.
My mum had a couple of Peugeots (205 and a 309), nice cars. I'm running a Renault at the moment 8-) Why is it French cars have the most comfortable seats?

A good sensible car to start out with, wise choice.

The insurance is a good price too. Many youngsters complain about the price of their premiums, the main argument usually being "My car is worth less than the premium". That may be true but it's not insuring the car, it's the driver.... and they're insuring against you smashing into a . (when I say "you" it's aimed at youngsters generally, not you AB)

I'm nearly 40, full no claims and a clean licence. I pay almost

I have been up to 70mph on the dual carriageway with no problems.

Around 60MPG for a car like that

heh.. I wish... I was getting around 30mpg when I first got it, now I am getting around 25mpg..

All from town driving or rather, sitting in traffic. (average speed since I got it - 9mph)

When I do more traveling with work and do motorway miles I will probably get around 40mpg
