Ok now I hate to say it, but this looks like a really pretty car. Shark tail not withstanding, it probably beats the Ferrari for looks.

I agree, but the sharks fin, that should join active suspension, turbos, TC and four wheel steering, not for the technology though, but for aesthetic reasons :-/

Very impressive rear end - exquisite packaging of the exhausts.

What Charlie said, the way the exhausts have been intergrated shows some serious work in the wind tunnel and on the computers. I am also impressed by the package at the front, the wing looks like its been sculpted by artists.
The one thing about the ferrari's are they are never very intricate. Always very basic but effective. I think the F2007/08 were the only exceptions in that respect.
Mclaren have always been about not only the performance, but the style as well.
I dont like the Sidepods, I know they are probably effective, but I much prefer the old style rounded off ones.

I dont quite understand how they plan for that to work.
The idea behind the shark tail as I understand it is to A: direct airflow better over the rear wing, and B: reduce the cars sensistivity to lateral movements under braking. An LMP doing 235mph down the straight then getting hit by a crosswind is likely to end up in trouble.

B is you answer. They're stable at high speed, but the recent accidents have tended to be under braking AFAIK, such as the spectacular somersaults by an Oreca car at Monza's first chicane in 2008.
