The Northamptonshire circuit stepped in to stage the coveted Formula 1 race after Donington Park lost the rights.
Donington was awarded a 17-year deal to host the showpiece event but failed to generate the necessary funds.

Sport?

Hurrah, glad to see it on the calendar. Would've liked to see a new Donington, but in the current mess we've been handed by some appalling business practice at home and abroad, they never stood a chance.

Its interesting they are hoping to run the new arena circuit for F1 next year.
Personally I prefer the old circuit. Cutting out Farm/abby, bridge is one of the better parts of the track.

looking at the arena circuit layout, I think I'm gonna be sick. Just another ugly tilke design. Now I want donnington.

Donington wasn't going to be that much different, they were going to butcher that too..

Mind you, I'd prefer them to put Abbey back as a high speed corner.

Always found the whole complex around Bridge to Luffield a bit mickey mouse too.

Plain old Woodcote was far better - although most F1 drivers would now be dead.

I like the complex. I agree the chicane should be gone. I think that Priory would be a fantastic corner if the run from club was flat out. Imagine bridge at 190mph then followed by trying to get the speed right for priory which is a tough corner.

What gets me is that the poison dwarf gives Silverstone sooooooo much grief about not being up to scratch & then he dishes out a 17!!!! year deal.
If Silverstone is as bad as the dwarf says, then why not just give a 2 or 5 year deal to tide the GP over?

It was a catch 22 for Silverstone, a 5 year deal wouldn't bring in the

It is not the facilities that need upgrading, but the road to get to the place.

Matt when was the last time you were at silverstone??
It has really easy access these days.
Donnington on the otherhand is a farm track one side, and airport access road the other.

haha, It's much better now. The facilities need updating. Only so many hours you can stand in a muddy field waiting to use a blocked up portaloo. :-/
