Nascar driver/team fined $200,000 for having an engine that is 0.17 inches above the NASCAR limit or 0.04 percent out of spec
Engine out of specIt does say that wear in Nascar engines is very high and this could be the reason. If so seems a bit steep. Can any Nascar fans elaborate?

Nascar decided that ALL equipment must be as close to identical as humanly and technically possible, so that the contest was between the drivers skills.
As far as engine wear, these things run at 8-9 thousand rpm almost non-stop for the better part of 400-500 mile races, a lot of times on very hot days, on a hot track that usually gets no shade, and they almost never fail or overheat. They do, just not on the order that you would expect for those conditions.
The small block, push rod V8 is just about a bullet proof design that's been perfected to the extreme.
Messing with the car, is like messing with Nascar's baby girl.
Not recommended, and the punishment is stiff.
