Sad news, and just goes to show even with all the advances in safety in modern motorsport, its still not enough.
The accident was a freak one to say the least as a tyre from a damaged car came across the track Surtees ran into it and was hit on the head, he was at that point unconcious and ran heavily into the barrier.

Very sad news, one of those terrible freaks of motor racing, which despite all safety initiatives can't be helped.

RIP.

Shocking and tragic news that one so young should have their life extinguished

How ironic, having just seen the crash and the state of the car, I fully expected him to jump up and wave to the crowd. In comparison to some of the crashes where there is car all over the track, and it can be taken home in a shopping bag, this really shows just how unfair life can really be.
