Daft. So it becomes very unlikely that we'll see ends to the season like last year - down to the wire, and instead have the championship decided my Monza.

Well done. Now use your collective power to find a braincell. If it ain't broke don't fix it, even if the person who won last season wasn't to your approval.

They may as well go the whole hog, and have a 4 way play-off for the championship at RoC just to make it more daft.

Personally I think the teams idea was a good one. Reward the guys who win as they should be. This I worry could end the season long before Monza even. Imagine Brawn gp are this much faster, Jenson or Rubens go out and win the first say 5 races (roughly the time it will take for most to develop and catch up.) So Jenson or rubens have 50 points/ 5 wins lets say theoretically Lewis or Felipe finish second for those 5 races, thats 40 points. then if the other teams have caught up by this team, say Brawn start slipping and no longer win a race, there are 12 races left, and with the teams all being close its not entirely out the question that, those 12 wins could be shared equally between guys like Massa, Kimi, Lewis, Kubica, and so on. So maybe Felipe or lewis win 3 races with BGP scoring some points but not loads, we could end up at the end of the season with Massa or Lewis on 90 odd points and only having 3 or 4 wins, and Jenson or Rubens on 70 points but with 5 wins and because of that strong start the guy who's 20 points back would be champion. How do you then explain that to the fans?

The average number of wins for the champion is 6.5 since the end of the 2004 season.
If hopefully not one team no matter who gets lucky or does have a significant advantage with another 2004 season repeat the title by those numbers would be over by monaco. :-/

So the season could effectively be over at the end of the German grandprix on the 12th July ::)
The drivers could could scupper it quite easily if they wanted to, mathematically it would be possible for more than one driver to win with equal wins and equal points, but it would need the whole field to play. What do you think Signor Montezemolo ;D

So this just means that if your car isn't on the pace in Australia, you don't have an awful lot of time to develop your car before the championship could be over.

nevermind the points structure, what about the optional budget caps allowing technical freedom?  2 sets of rules in the same series?

I wouldn't worry about next year. Max should be gone by the end of this season. Jean Todt has severed all ties with ferrari now in an apparent start to his leadership quest, and while yes we all know conflict of interests and what will inevitably years of Ferrari bias accusations, if nothing else he is far more in touch with the sport as a whole and will be far more willing to listen to the teams ideas.
