Competition or Entertainment?

I know the USF1 team has been mentioned here.
And here is the official news
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73414

What gets me is the part.
"we're in the entertainment business"

Now see personally I disagree with this. I believe they are in the competition business with a fan interest base. F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsports. That is why it is now the only recognised series to be elligable for the world championship (little known fact the World championship is actually a seperate thing from F1)
And as such I think teams should be focused in a competition mindset.
Thoughts?

I think they should quit now and save themselves the embarrassment. ;D

Seriously, what do we have that could compete on any level with the likes of Ferrari, McClaren, BMW, and Renault?

And if they're going in with that kind of mindset, it only makes the ensuing embarrassment that much worse.

The boys in F1 don't play around, and are gonna chew these field fillers up and spit them out.

If Toyota couldn't find success by now, this new upstart doesn't stand a chance.

If they want to be in the entertainment business, they should have started a NASCAR team, as sadly, that is the direction they are firmly heading for now. :(

It is just a part of selling F-1 to sponsors in america, I think it will be pretty interesting to see how their strategy of employing only 100 employees will work.  It certainly takes care of some of the team buracracy problems that a massive team like Toyota probably have.

I don't really see the problem with this ...... F1 has a rather stuffy and self righteous air about it, it's far to full of it's own self importance. Not helped by the secretive way it is run.
When it comes down to it, its all about entertaining an audience.
Yes there is a competition, but without that it would just be like watching cars on a motorway.
I agree that it is the pinnacle of motorsport but that doesn't mean it should be totally detatched from its fan base. After all, without the fans to watch it's just cars running round a circuit for the pleasure of their makers.
