Just a quick question...

I am currently looking to save up for a bike fairly soon, for when I am 17 and need to get around. I have been looking at two bikes so far- the Yamaha YZF-125 and the Honda CBR-125R

I like the look of both of them, but one reason I am edging towards the CBR is because of the second seat, which no doubt I will need (carry a friend to cadets, get my sister to town/friends etc). The only concern I have with the CBR is those darn rear view mirrors. I don't like how they are positioned...

I am wondering if it would be legally possible to have them removed from the handlebars and have replacement ones sort of, well, stuck onto the sides of the front end, like on the YZF.

Any thoughts?

Also, as part of a debate... is that a second seat on the YZf-125? I thought they are meant to have some sort of a grip or thing for the second rider to hold onto.

I think that you are not allowed to carry passengers at the age of 17?

In the other thread about bike age limits, I think it said that you can...

In the UK you have to have past your Test befor you can carry pillion passengers.

A 125 should be ok for that when i had my 125 i used to take my mum all over the place on that back of it ( It was a Honda CG 125 good bike for what it was )

Another good point to raise to those with experience- what would be a good first bike to get? I want to have the yzf-r125 or perhaps the cbr (though the Yamaha is most likely to be the one for me) but as I have read, many newbies go around dropping their bikes quite a bit. Now, I don't want to hurt 'my precious' so is a good idea to get a cheapy second or maybe further hand bike for a few months?

Possible pros I can see for this is: lower insurance, possibly, because of the un-newity of the bike... the ability to get practise on something that I won't mind scratching too much and possibly the effect it might have on the insurance on the yzf. If I get a bike and ride it okay for a few months or so, then it could go down as owning another bike and it might reflect on the new insurance. It would be cheaper insurance on this old bike then hopefully work out to lower on the better bike.

Any thoughts?
