Vehicle Decals

I have a couple decals on my car windows, but after scraping the ice off my windows nearly everyday for the last month, they keep deteriorating and falling off.  I know this is a really dumb question, but does sticking decals on the vehicle paint instead of the window hurt the paint? I might put the replacement decal on the back of my trunk instead of the rear window.

Yes, it will mark the paint. Why not put them on the inside of the windows? :P

hmm...I'll have to go outside and see if I could simply tape them to the inside of the window. Another thing is that the rear window is at an angle where it's not as visible if it were straight up and down on the trunk instead of at an angle

Hmmm. Is it not possible to get some designed to go on the inside? If not you can stick them on the paint but it will show if you ever remove them.

I forgot to mention that the windows are tinted, and wouldn't be very visible. I didn't even think about it untill I went outside a minute ago.

So if I do decide to remove them, how will it show? Will it permanantely damage the paint, or will it just leave some glue residue from the sticker that would wash off?

Ah OK. Depends on how long you leave them on there. It's not a matter of the glue. The paint not covered by the decals will weather over time leaving different coloured patches under them. In some cases these will be very diffficult to remove, even with T-Cut.

Get some clear contact paper and cover the decals with it.  You can cut it a little bigger to also stick to the glass.  This way when you scrap the ice off the original decal will be protected.

Ok, that makes sense. I never thought of the paint being weathered over time.

From my boss....you can just put paint sealant or wax on the graphics, it will do just fine.

He said there is also a clear vinyl decal sheet that you can buy from 3M which you could then lay up over top of the original ones to protect them....

If the clear vinyl decal sheet gets chewed up too much, can I remove it from the window/decal without ruining the decals?

instead of scraping the ice off the window, pour water over it.
