Singapore 28th September will be held under flood lights. Should be interesting, however, I think it is pandering to ratings and a bit of sensationalism.

Seems a sensible feeler. If Singapore is a success I suspect soon after we'll have night races in Oz, Malaysia and China, to suit the majority of the world's TV audience... :)

It'll be differant for f1, but I dont see it as any differant to the indycar/ nascar night races. I love the Indycars in the dark, the lights make them shine really nicely. Both Mclaren and the Ferrari's should look stunning under the lights.

Any idea how they propose to do this? Overhead lights will need supporting somehow. My immediate vision is of rows of lampposts all round the circuit adding another unnecessary hazard. ::)

Have you ever seen a car after it's collided with a lamppost?

It's already been tested. The lights are on the mobile units, and will be behind the usual barriers and tyre wall.
They are very powerful and as of last reports, rows of them wern't needed to provide the illumination needed. Dont worry Doug, they've been through stupid amounts of tests and planning for safety.

Floodlights, with two of the circuits (Singapore and Albert Park) being predominantly "street", fairly closely walled circuits. Shouldn't be a major hurdle.
