starting my bike...

i have a Yamaha YZ-80  offroad motorbike, and it is terribly hard to start (kickstart).  I have a fairly new plug in it, and I rev up the engine to clean off some of the carbon, too.  Any suggestions on how to start it faster, or before I shut it off, are welcome.  I don't mind it taking a while, but maybe you've got some good thoughts ;)

All you really need is a rather smashing butler to do it for you whilst you finish your breakfast old bean.

Maybe you should try this.

Sounds like it will do the job.

How about cleaning the air filter and checking the gap on the spark plug?

Thanks, I'll try.

I know most older bikes are all hard to start, but it would be nice for it not to take 10 minutes straight kicking!

 ;) ;)

how is it running once started? is your carb set properly with the correct jets and needle? is your ignition working properly, not only the spark plug? once running do you feel your engine is in good shape, I mean 2 strokes engines needs some intention from time to time, your rings may be old and may request to be replaced if they haven't been done recently...
don't know what kind of ignition do you have on these bikes but if it's point ignition they need some setting quite often too...

there are many things you should work on quite often to get those bikes running fine, it's not only start it up, run it hard, and shut it down...

my 2 cents
