Might need to choose between a few cars for one to own myself:

Shortlist up to now
Second hand Peugeot 206: best looking one of the list
Second hand Suzuki Vitara: 4x4 fun
New Lada Niva: 13k for a 4x4... sales of these are rising in holland
New Lada 2111 station (AKA Lada 111): lots of m3/euro
New Dacia Logan: cheapest of the new ones... smaller than the 2111

The 206 is easily the best choice on the list.
The Vitara is rubbish, I know a few people who've got 'em and swear at 'em rather than by them!
The Niva is the poor mans Landie and borderline unbreakable. Very easy to maintain but not the fastest thing on the planet.
I know naff all about the 2111.
DON'T touch the Dacia. They're dire. My in-laws neighbour got one and after a few weeks it started rusting :o A big pile of poo!

206 by far. Why? The Vitara is useless in Holland (like any off-road car), the Lada's and Dacia; well they are Lada's and a Dacia. You don't want them, they embarras you. Take the money you would spend on a new Lada or Dacia and you buy a second hand car that is much, much better.

Crash ;)

Ah well, at risk of sounding like an annoying echo, the Peugeot 206 would be my recommendation. Nice little car.

From your post I figure you got some 13000 Euro to spend right? You got to ask yourself for what purpose you will use the car. Only to drive around town? Buy a small one (fuel economy, parking spaces). To drive a long distance every day? Buy a bigger one (more comfort). Go around websites like Autotrack.nl and Autoscout24.nl. You will find your car and probably much cheaper than you would think.

Crash ;)

Will probably go for the Peugeot...

Current idea:
206 Stationwagon with
[*]Alloy wheels (must)
[*]Airco (must)
[*]Cruise control (nice if its installed)
[*]If possible JBL factory-installed car audio (sacrifices the two storage hatches in the rear for a 6cd changer and a huge amplifier)

Geez, why don't you get a 3 series BMW then? ;P

My girlfriend owns a black Peugeot 206 - 1,4 Petrol engine. It's a nice car and drives good. The only setback for me is the driversposition. I never get it right, as I do in my Opel Astra. But I'd still choose that one above anything other on the list...

Cheers,

Omag

Because i dont' want to be hunted down by jealous sisters of my girlfriend for having a bigger BMW than they have

Went looking for cars today...

Choice at the moment
2004 Seat Ibiza (9k)
Seat Leon (10-13k depending on kms and extras)
2001 Peugeot 206 special option pack with leather seats (9k)
2004 VW Polo for 11k
1997 Volvo 960 Station. for those that dont know... the last real Tank Volvo (6k)
2002 Saab 9-3 2.0 Turbo for just 11k (stationwagon or sportier one for about 13k)
2001 Nissan Almera (8k)

In reality the main choice is between a small (seats, peugeot) or a large car (saab or equivalent)... as the prices are nearly the same
