Get off work early for once and all I got was another truck for the scrap yard >:(  3rd one in the past 18 months or so :-/

Started home and almost made it.  Cruisin down the highway when suddenly things start getting jumpy.  Next came an ear shattering bang and the hood flew up.  Engine litteraly blew up.  Managed to keep her on the road till I could get my speed down from 55 mpg or so and get off to the side.  Smoke just rolled and flames started shooting.  Fire went out quickly but its to dark to really see the true extent of the damage.  Not sure what caused it yet or anything really.  Still off the road for the night till my friend and I can tow it back to his place tomorrow evening.  All I know at this point is its done for...theres dents all over the hood...what ever blew truely blew :o  Hard enough to break the latch.  

So once again I'm stuck looking for another old truck to drive till something major goes wrong with it.  None of the 3 have been in my control.  I knew this one was on its last leg but jeez.  Couldnt have just died...had to go out with a bang >:(

buy a 1980's toyota hilux. those things are litterally indestructable. A proven fact that even when blown up, crushed, sunk in the sea, and driven into bristol itself, it still kept running.

I'll back the Toyota. Top Gear tried to destroy one. Even setting fire to it failed to stop it.

In America we only got the diesel for 2 years.  So its not really an option until the new Tundra is released.  And the "Hilux" is simply called "truck" here.  Toyota didn't name thier trucks here until 1995-6 or so.  When they became the Tacoma and Tundra.

Well...its been towed over to his house with a lot of parts in the bed.  Picked up pullies and other junk for about 200 feet >:(  Pretty much the whole engine just blew apart.  Radiator is in peices and the new $125 fan just put in a week ago only has 2 of the 8 blades still intact.  Hood was so bent out of shape we couldnt even get it halfway closed.  Shot parts clean through the firewall, all the electrical is fried, the whole engine is done.  Fire didnt last long but destroyed anything that could melt.  Considering how much work and money that has gone into it recently it feels like all was a complete waist.  Its had about $1000 worth of new parts.  What really pisses me off is that I had a fairly new grill gaurd that cost around $500.  There was a pully wedged in it.  Hit with enough force to bend a couple bars out of shape  

Its really been a kick in the a$$.  I dont have time or money for this.  Leaving in less then 2 weeks for Taiwan and will be gone for about 3 weeks.  Dont have time to find another truck and dont really want to get another loan.  Just got the last one paid off a couple months ago :-/  But have to find something for work.  Cant get a loan without a job.  

Just have to grin and bare it...just have to eat the cost.  Starting to scrap out the other 2 trucks for parts.  So thats a little money, especialy since the Bronco had a fairly new transmition with under 10K on it.  Still wont add up to what I need.

Wont be buying a Toyota...Looking for a Chevy or GMC.  Its just a thing around here...I will not buy a foreign vehical.  And cant have a car due to work.  Have to have a truck...And I just truely hate cars unless their old muscle.

Looking at around $5000 for a decent 92-96 Chevy or GMC.  But it will just have to wait till I get back home.  Borrowing a friends old truck for the time being  ;)  85 Chevy 2500...the true meaning of junker...but it runs

well if you wont go with the hilux, then expect more problems. Sorry but apart from the modern ones american pick-up's generally get whooped by the foreign ones.

Hmmm..............never had a problem with a Ford, generally manage over 200,000 miles...........sounds like you had a water pump failure........probably an aftermarket re-man to boot.

I have a 1975 Chevrolet truck.........still running strong.......good sheet metal......amazing what a regular maintenance will accomplish.

You can park the Toyota in a river over night and it will still run in the morning once you've drained the cylinders. Any car will run well for a long time with regular maintenance. But very few will take all the abuse a man can throw at it and still run.

Part of the problem with foreign vehicals around here is theres no demand for parts.  Everything has to be special order and can take way to long when in a hurry.  Cars arnt so bad but when it comes to trucks the only parts usualy in stock are for Ford, Chevy/GMC, or Dodge.  

Looked at a 93 Dodge Ram 1500 today for around $3000.  But they are about as bad as Fords so they are a last resort.

Checked on a loan also.  Can get $6000 right now.  That will get at least a decent 95 or so.  But I am waiting till I get home from Taiwan to mess with it

Near as indestructable. I've now got two Japanese cars and you can't beat em... (Messrs Honda and Mazda...)

I drove a chevy truck for quite a few years without any problems other than the ordinary belt replacement, oil changes etc...

I saw one the other day where they finally managed to break a hilux. What they did was weld the doors shut as well as the bonnet, fill the wheel cavities with foam, put an outboard motor on the back and capsize it in a freezing cold lake
