Dumb, dumber and from Doncaster...

Craig Moore thought he had outsmarted the speed camera which photographed him as he rushed through Greater Manchester. He went home, put together an explosive device with a substance normally used to weld railway lines, returned to the scene, and blew it up. Evidence destroyed. Fine avoided.
What the 28-year-old railway worker from Doncaster did not realise was that images of his van speeding through Mottram Road, Hyde, were stored on a disk in the base of the camera and survived unscathed. But, worse still, the blast triggered the camera mechanism to take a second picture of his van and its registration number. Now, instead of a speeding fine, he faces 10 years in jail.
Moore, who already has previous convictions for driving while disqualified, having no insurance and car theft, admitted destroying property at Minshull Street crown court, Manchester, yesterday.
Had he simply accepted the original speeding offence it is likely he would have been fined

Up to 10 years for destroying a speed camera, seems a bit excessive.
Typical reporting, nice embellishment of the blast and explosive properties of Thermite.
What he should get is 10 years for the accumulated motoring offences.

That is a bit much. I say, put him on the sidewalk permanently. No more driving. Ever. That would be a bummer for him, but it beats doing time.

Rotty, hit the internet and check out some of the UK's newspaper sites from time to time. You will see "wonderful" stories about:

11 year olds that are caught by the police driving stolen cars and then some judge (admittedly his hands are tied) gives said child a driving ban and maybe 6 points on a licence that does not exist.

Career car thieves that have never passed a driving test also getting driving bans and point on a licence that does not exist.........just in case they decide to become legal.

A while back a guy was given a life time driving ban. He argued that it infringed his human rights. So he was banned for 5 years instead.
